Shopify: how much profit is left after fees?

On Shopify you pay a monthly plan and a fee on every card payment. Each looks small, but together with shipping, ads and returns they decide whether an order makes money. The free Shop-Check works it out from one typical product and tells you the three things worth changing first.

Shopify is already selected. You only answer one question and enter one product.

What typically eats the margin on Shopify

Example: Basic plan in Germany, an order of €30.00 and 100 orders a month.

The monthly plan
Basic costs €32.00 a month (€24.00 a month if you pay yearly). With 100 orders that is €0.32 per order – on top of every other fee. With few orders it weighs much more.
Card fees on every payment
Shopify Payments takes 1.6% + €0.25 per online card payment on Basic in Germany (Austria: 2% + €0.25). On a €30.00 order that is €0.73.
Cards from abroad
Cards issued in another country cost 3.1% + €0.25 on Basic – about twice the domestic rate. If many buyers come from abroad, calculate with this rate.
Other payment providers
If you take payments through a provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced. The provider's own fee comes on top.
Apps, ads, shipping and returns
These are not Shopify fees, and they are different in every shop. They often cost more than the fees. That is why the Shop-Check asks for them instead of guessing.

Fee numbers: Shopify's official pricing pages, checked on October 21, 2026. The Shopify calculator has the full tables for Germany, Austria and the UK. In the Shop-Check the payment fee starts as an example value of 2.9% – replace it with your own rate.

What the Shop-Check does for a Shopify shop

  1. You say what matters most to you and enter one typical product: price, purchase price, shipping, ads and returns.
  2. You see what is left per order and per month, and which cost takes the biggest share.
  3. You get at most three next steps, sorted by what they are worth. Each one opens the matching tool with your numbers already filled in.

Free, no sign-up and no shop connection. Your numbers stay in your browser, and every formula is explained.

Questions about Shopify and the Shop-Check

Do I have to connect my Shopify store?

No. You type in one typical product. The calculation runs in your browser, and your numbers are not sent to us.

Is the Shop-Check really free?

Yes. You need no account and no card. Paid options are only for extras, such as checking a whole product list in one go.

Does the Shop-Check include my monthly Shopify plan?

No. The Shop-Check works per order. The Shopify calculator spreads the plan price over your orders per month, so use it if you want the plan included.

How is this different from the Shopify profit calculator?

The calculator works out one product exactly, with the fee table for your country and plan. The Shop-Check looks at the whole order – fees, shipping, ads, returns – and tells you what to change first.

Are the fees up to date?

We took them from Shopify's official pricing pages on October 21, 2026 and check them at least every 90 days. Your Shopify invoice is always the final word.
