Product Feed Validator

Find the errors that get products rejected in Google Merchant Center before you upload your feed: missing attributes, wrong GTIN check digits, price format, duplicate ids, promotional titles and more.

In short: The validator reads your feed file in the browser and checks each product against Google Merchant Center rules: required attributes, GTIN length and check digit (GS1), price and currency format, duplicate ids and promotional text in titles.

  • No upload – runs in your browser
  • Google, Shopify & WooCommerce files
  • Fix instructions for every problem

Check your product feed

CSV or TSV: a Google Merchant Center feed, a Shopify product export or a WooCommerce product export.

Max. 5 MB and 5,000 products. The file is checked in your browser and never uploaded.

This check covers the rules of the Google product data specification (retrieved 2026-10-19). It does not open your product pages or images and cannot guarantee approval by Google.

How to check your feed

  1. Export your products. Download your Google feed as CSV/TSV, or export your products from Shopify (Products → Export) or WooCommerce (Products → Export).
  2. Open the file here. Choose or drop the file. It is read in your browser – nothing is uploaded. Shop exports are recognised automatically.
  3. Fix the problems. Start with the rejections. Every problem comes with the affected products, the line number and how to fix it.

What is checked

  • Required attributes: id, title, description, link, image_link, availability, price
  • Lengths: id ≤ 50, title ≤ 150, description ≤ 5,000 characters
  • Price: number + ISO currency code (19.99 EUR), sale price below the price, no 0 price
  • GTIN: length 8/12/13/14, GS1 check digit, restricted prefixes
  • Identifiers: GTIN or MPN + brand, identifier_exists, placeholder brands like “N/A”
  • Titles: all capital letters and promotional text such as “free shipping”
  • URL format of link and image_link, supported image formats
  • Fixed values: availability, condition, gender, age_group
  • Duplicate ids and variants without item_group_id

What this check cannot do

  • It does not open your product pages or images – mismatches with the landing page, image size or watermarks are not detected.
  • It does not know Google’s policies for your products (e.g. restricted products) or your account status.
  • It cannot guarantee approval. Google decides – this check finds the formal errors that cause most rejections.
  • Rules follow the Google product data specification, retrieved 2026-10-19.

Example: one product, before and after

A T-shirt from a Shopify shop

One row of a feed with five typical problems. The validator reports each of them with the line number; the corrected file fixes the safe ones (title, price, availability) automatically – the GTIN must come from the manufacturer.

  • title

    Before
    SUMMER T-SHIRT – FREE SHIPPING!
    After
Summer T-shirt, organic cotton, blue, M

All capital letters and promotional text in the title.

  • price

    Before
    19,99 €
    After
    19.99 EUR

Google expects a number with a decimal point and an ISO currency code.

  • availability

    Before
    In Stock
    After
    in_stock

Only in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder and backorder are accepted.

  • gtin

    Before
    4006381333932
    After
    4006381333931

Wrong check digit – the last digit does not match the GS1 calculation.

  • sale_price

    Before
    24.99 EUR
    After
    (empty)

A sale price must be lower than the regular price.

Each of these errors alone can get the product rejected or limit its visibility in Google Shopping.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Prices without currency or with a decimal comma

Why it matters: Google reads prices as a number with a decimal point plus an ISO currency code. “19,99 €” or “19.99” alone is rejected or misread.

Fix: Write prices as 19.99 EUR. Shop exports never contain a currency – set it in the validator and download the corrected file.

Invented or mistyped GTINs

Why it matters: Google validates GTINs. A wrong GTIN can get the product rejected or limit its visibility – products without a GTIN are allowed if they have none.

Fix: Copy GTINs from the packaging or the manufacturer. For products without one (own brand, handmade), leave gtin empty and submit brand + mpn, or identifier_exists = no.

Shop spellings in fixed-value attributes

Why it matters: availability, condition, gender and age_group only accept Google’s values. “In Stock”, “Neu” or “Unisex Adult” are invalid.

Fix: Use Google’s values (in_stock, new, unisex, adult …). Common spellings are converted in the corrected file.

Promotional titles

Why it matters: Titles in capital letters or with “Free shipping”, “SALE” or prices are against Google’s title rules and can limit the product.

Fix: Describe the product: brand, product type, key attributes (colour, size, material). Put discounts in sale_price.

Variants with the same id or without item_group_id

Why it matters: Every size and colour is its own product for Google. Duplicate ids cause errors or overwrite each other; variants without item_group_id are not grouped.

Fix: Give every variant a unique id (e.g. the SKU) and the same item_group_id for all variants of a product.

Sale price equal to or above the price

Why it matters: A sale_price that is not lower than price is invalid – often the two columns are swapped in the export.

Fix: Regular price in price, reduced price in sale_price. Leave sale_price empty when there is no discount.

Frequently asked questions

Is my feed uploaded to your server?

No. The file is read and checked in your browser. Only anonymous usage counts (for example “a file was checked”) are sent – never file names, products or values. When you unlock the full check, only a fingerprint of the file is sent (so the same file does not cost a second credit), never its content.

Which file formats are supported?

CSV and TSV (tab-separated) files: Google Merchant Center feeds with attribute names such as id, title and price, Shopify product exports and WooCommerce product exports. XML feeds are not supported yet.

Why does my Shopify or WooCommerce export show “link is not part of this export”?

Shop exports are not feeds: they contain no product URL. Your feed app (for example Google & YouTube for Shopify or a WooCommerce feed plugin) adds it. For Shopify you can enter your store URL to build the links from the product handle.

How is the GTIN checked?

The last digit of every GTIN is a check digit calculated from the other digits (GS1 standard). The validator recalculates it and also checks the length (8, 12, 13 or 14 digits) and prefixes that Google does not accept, such as in-store numbers starting with 2.

Do prices have to include VAT?

Outside the US and Canada, Google expects prices including VAT or GST – the price customers pay. In the US and Canada, prices are submitted without sales tax.

What does the corrected file change?

Only safe fixes: extra spaces, titles in capital letters, price format and currency, common spellings of fixed values (e.g. “In Stock” → in_stock) and HTML tags in descriptions. Wrong GTINs, missing attributes or URLs are never guessed – they stay as they are and are listed in the problem export.

Does a passed check mean Google will approve my products?

No. The check finds formal errors in the file. Google also compares your feed with the product page, checks images and applies its policies.
