Etsy: how much profit is left after all the fees?

Etsy charges several small fees on every sale, and most of them are also taken on the shipping you charge. With materials, packaging and your time, a handmade product that sells well can still earn very little. The free Shop-Check works it out from one typical product and tells you the three things worth changing first.

Etsy is already selected. You only answer one question and enter one product.

What typically eats the margin on Etsy

Example: an order of €25.00 including shipping, with a bank account in Germany.

The transaction fee – on shipping too
Etsy takes 6.5% of the order total, including shipping and gift wrap. On a €25.00 order that is €1.63.
Payment processing
It depends on where your bank account is: 4% + €0.30 in Germany and Austria, 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 3% + $0.25 in the US. On the €25.00 order: €1.30. Together with the transaction fee that is €2.93 before anything else.
The listing fee
$0.20 per listing – charged again for every extra item sold from the same listing and when a listing renews. Etsy converts it into your currency at the market rate.
Offsite Ads
If a sale comes from an Etsy ad on another website, Etsy takes 15% of the order (12% for shops with $10,000.00 or more in sales in the last 365 days), at most $100.00 per order. One such sale can take most of the profit.
Currency conversion and country fees
If Etsy has to convert currencies, it charges 2.5%. In some countries a regulatory operating fee comes on top, for example 0.48% in the UK and 1.14% in France.

Fee numbers: Etsy Help Center, checked on October 21, 2026. The Etsy calculator has the rates for 15 countries. In the Shop-Check the fees start as example values (6.5% platform fee, 4% payment fee) – change them if yours differ.

What the Shop-Check does for an Etsy shop

  1. You say what matters most to you and enter one typical product: price, material costs, shipping, ads and returns.
  2. You see what is left per order and per month, and which cost takes the biggest share.
  3. You get at most three next steps, sorted by what they are worth. Each one opens the matching tool with your numbers already filled in.

Free, no sign-up and no Etsy connection. Your numbers stay in your browser, and every formula is explained.

Questions about Etsy and the Shop-Check

Do I have to connect my Etsy shop?

No. You type in one typical product. The calculation runs in your browser, and your numbers are not sent to us.

Is the Shop-Check really free?

Yes. You need no account and no card. Paid options are only for extras, such as checking a whole product list in one go.

Does it include Offsite Ads?

Not automatically, because only some sales come from those ads. If many of yours do, add the average ad fee per order as ad cost. The Etsy calculator includes Offsite Ads with the share of your orders that come from them.

Should I count my own working time?

If you want to know whether the product is worth your time, yes: add it to the purchase price per item. Otherwise the result shows what is left before you pay yourself.

How is this different from the Etsy profit calculator?

The calculator works out one sale exactly, with the fees for your bank account's country. The Shop-Check looks at the whole order – fees, shipping, ads, returns – and tells you what to change first.

Are the fees up to date?

We took them from Etsy's Help Center on October 21, 2026 and check them at least every 90 days. Your Etsy payment account is always the final word.
