Fees are charged on the amount the customer pays (incl. VAT). Returns are expected values: refunded orders still cost shipping, fees and advertising.
Frequently asked questions
What fees does Shopify charge per order?
With Shopify Payments you pay a card rate per order (a percentage plus a fixed amount, depending on plan and country). With an external payment provider you pay that provider’s fee plus an extra Shopify transaction fee. On top comes your monthly plan price.
Is an external payment provider more expensive?
Usually yes: besides the provider’s own fee, Shopify charges a transaction fee on each order (the percentage depends on your plan). The calculator shows both so you can compare.
Which Shopify plan is cheapest for me?
It depends on your orders per month. Bigger plans cost more per month but have lower card and transaction fees. The plan comparison shows fees plus plan price per month for your numbers.
Where do the fees come from?
From the official Shopify pricing page of each country, with the date we last checked it. Where we could not verify current numbers, nothing is pre-filled and you enter the fees yourself.
Does the calculator include VAT?
Yes. If you are VAT-registered, VAT is removed from the price before the profit is calculated. Without VAT registration, the VAT you pay on costs counts as a cost.
