Parcel prices 2027: how to recalculate your prices and free-shipping threshold
Take your new price per parcel from your carrier and recalculate three things: what an order leaves, the price or shipping fee that keeps it, and your free-shipping threshold. In our example (+€0.40 per parcel, an example, not a forecast) the shipping fee must rise from €4.90 to €5.41, and a free-shipping order needs a basket of €33.81 instead of €32.96.
Enter one typical order, then change only the shipping cost to your new parcel price.

Deutsche Post/DHL announced on 20 October 2026 changes for 1 January 2027, including a price adjustment for business customer parcels and a new Päckchen range. The announcement names no percentage for business parcels; prices for private customers are to follow later (sources below).
At the time of writing (23 October 2026) the 2027 parcel prices are not published. For 2026, DHL informed its business customers individually instead of publishing one figure. That is why this guide does not guess a percentage: use the price from your own new price list.
In Austria, DHL Express raises prices on 1 January 2027 by 5.4 % on average according to a press report; the same report says the Austrian Post currently plans no parcel price change. Check your own carrier's notice – averages say little about your parcel size and volume.
- Business customers: your new price list or contract from the carrier (often sent by e-mail or in the business customer portal in November/December).
- Private shipping (small sellers): the carrier's price page – Deutsche Post lists its changes on the page “Änderungen 2027”.
- Other carriers (Hermes, DPD, GLS, Austrian Post): their price page or your account manager.
The method: three numbers to recalculate
You need your old and your new cost per parcel (without VAT), your shipping fee and one typical order. Then:
| Loss per order if you change nothing | contribution with old parcel cost − contribution with new parcel cost |
|---|---|
| Price or shipping fee that keeps your profit | smallest customer price where contribution (new parcel cost) ≥ contribution today |
| New free-shipping threshold | smallest basket value where a free-shipping order (new parcel cost) ≥ contribution today |
Step by step with the profit calculator
The calculator does the VAT and fee part for you. Fees and VAT also apply to the shipping fee the customer pays, so the increase you pass on is a little more than the higher carrier price.
- Enter one typical order with your old parcel cost and note the result per order.
- Change only the shipping cost to your new parcel price. The difference is what the new price costs you on every order.
- Raise the selling price (or, if you charge shipping, think of it as the shipping fee) until the result per order is back where it was.
- Recalculate your free-shipping threshold with the new parcel cost – the free-shipping guide shows how.
- Check your parcel sizes: if a product moves into a different format or weight class in 2027, use that class's price, not the average.
The same method for other increases
Same example shop, other example increases per parcel. Today's order leaves €7.64; each column keeps that amount. If your threshold is a round number (say €35.00), check that it is still above the basket needed.
| Higher parcel price (example) | Shipping fee needed | Or item price needed | Basket needed for free shipping |
|---|---|---|---|
| +€0.20 | €5.16 | €25.16 | €33.38 |
| +€0.40 | €5.41 | €25.41 | €33.81 |
| +€0.60 | €5.67 | €25.67 | €34.23 |
| +€1.00 | €6.18 | €26.18 | €35.07 |
Worked examples: Example shop: item for €24.90, parcel cost €4.90 → €5.30
Example values, not the real 2027 prices: purchase price €8.00, customer pays €4.90 shipping, payment fee 2 % + €0.30, €2.00 ads per order, 5 % returns at €5.00, 19 % VAT. The parcel gets €0.40 more expensive.
- Stays per order today
- €7.64
- Stays per order with the new parcel price
- €7.24
- Item price that keeps the profit (shipping fee unchanged)
- €25.41
- Or: shipping fee that keeps the profit (item price unchanged)
- €5.41
- Basket needed for free shipping – before
- €32.96
- Basket needed for free shipping – with the new parcel price
- €33.81
€0.40 more per parcel costs this shop €0.40 on every order. To get it back, the shipping fee must rise by €0.51, not €0.40: VAT, the payment fee and refunds on returns take their share of the fee. The free-shipping threshold needs a basket of €33.81 instead of €32.96.
